ABOUT THE PROJECT
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

"The Wound & The Lens" is a multimedia investigation into the
phenomenology of transformation. Over two years of intensive
collaboration, we have created 37 singles accompanied by over
300 visual essays and paintings, documenting a psycho-
philosophical journey through depression, collapse, and radical
self-acceptance.

What began as a chance meeting between two artists – one
documenting decades of depression through music, the other
painting landscapes of inner states – became a catalyst for
unprecedented creative momentum. We discovered we had been
working on the same project from different angles, separated
by medium and years, but united by a fundamental question:
How do we give form to experiences that language fails to
capture?

The answer revealed itself through practice. In recognizing
our own struggles in each other's work, we understood what we
needed to create: spaces where others might experience similar
moments of recognition. "The Wound & The Lens" emerged not as
a concept we invented, but as a phenomenon we experienced and
now attempt to replicate through our audiovisual practice.

Our methodology treats music, painting, and text not as
separate disciplines where one illustrates the other, but as
different lenses through which to examine the same phenomena.
Each medium offers insights the others cannot provide. Together,
they create experiences of recognition that no single medium
could achieve alone.

CORE THEMES:
- Transformation through crisis
- Depression without sentimentality
- Recognition in the Other as path to self-acceptance
- The audiovisual as unified artistic language
- Art as documentation of lived experience

THE ARTISTS
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

BASTIAN Neumann  (BASTART)

Bastian Neumann is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer
based in Zweibrücken, Germany. Over two decades, he has
documented his journey through depression and transformation
in an extensive archive of musical material, ranging from
experimental ambient to art rock and psychedelic compositions.

His work is characterized by a refusal to separate the
personal from the artistic, treating music as a form of
philosophical inquiry rather than entertainment. In Lost &
Found, he serves as composer, producer, and performer of all
musical elements, while also developing the technical
infrastructure for the project's digital presence.

Previous work under the name "Bastart" includes numerous
singles and experimental releases exploring the boundaries
between noise, melody, and emotional authenticity.

Instruments: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Synthesizers, Piano,
Programming
Skills: Music Production, Mixing, Mastering, Web Development

CARINA Rheinheimer (CIRCÉ)

Carina is a painter and visual artist whose work explores the
relationship between internal emotional states and external
visual form. Her paintings do not illustrate the music – they
exist as parallel investigations into the same phenomena,
offering visual entry points into experiences that resist
verbal articulation.

Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media,
her approach is characterized by expressive color work. In
Lost & Found, she creates not only the paintings that accompany
each song but also curates the overall visual language of the
project, from album artwork to video essays.

Her contribution extends beyond the visual: she shapes the
conceptual framework of the project, ensuring that the work
maintains ethical rigor when dealing with difficult themes like
depression and transformation.

Medium: Acrylic
Skills: Visual Art, Painting, Conceptual Development, Video

THE WORK
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

DISCOGRAPHY:

42 Singles (2023-2025)
Each single is accompanied by visual essays and original
paintings, organized into three thematic phases:

PHASE I: DISENCHANTMENT
The recognition that current structures no longer serve.
Tracks explore the moment when comfortable illusions collapse.

Selected Singles:
- "Dark Places" – Opening the wound
- "The Mirror Cracks" – Recognition of disillusion
- "Hollow Echoes" – The void left behind

PHASE II: HOLLOW WAYS
The journey through emptiness after structures have collapsed.
These tracks document the difficult middle passage where old
forms are gone but new ones haven't emerged.

Selected Singles:
- "You Take" – Raw confrontation with loss
- "Care" – Longing as bridge between states
- "A Restless Breed" – Internal warfare
- "Weightless Falling" – Surrender to collapse

PHASE III: PHOENIX CODEX
Not redemption or healing, but radical acceptance. These tracks
explore what it means to integrate rather than overcome.

Selected Singles:
- "Souls at Play" – Cosmic connection
- "Silent Equation" – Revolutionary collectivity
- "Fragments Whole" – Acceptance of incompleteness
- "The Wound Remains" – Living with scars

LIVE PERFORMANCE (still in development)
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

CONCEPT:

Lost & Found's live performances are audiovisual experiences
that blur the boundary between concert, installation, and
cinema. Rather than treating visuals as accompaniment to music
(or vice versa), we create unified experiences where sound and
image are equally weighted elements of a single artistic
statement.

FORMAT:

60-75 minute set combining:
- Live music performance (vocals, guitar, electronics, backing
 tracks)
- Real-time video projection (video essays, paintings, abstract
 visuals)
- Curated lighting creating immersive atmosphere

Bastian performs vocals, guitar, and manages electronic
elements (synthesizers, samples, backing tracks). Carina
operates live visuals, selecting and transitioning between
video content in response to the music's emotional arc.

The performance follows a narrative structure through the three
phases of transformation, allowing audiences to experience the
complete journey in compressed form.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

See separate Technical Rider for complete
specifications.

Basic requirements:
- PA system suitable for venue capacity
- 2-3 projectors (min. 3000 lumens)
- Projection surfaces or screens
- Basic stage lighting with dimming capability

- Soundcheck: 30-45 minutes

We are experienced in adapting to various venue configurations
and are happy to discuss technical possibilities.

EXHIBITION CONCEPT
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

CONCEPT:

The exhibition format allows visitors to engage with the
audiovisual work at their own pace, creating personalized
journeys through the material. Rather than a traditional
gallery hanging, we create immersive environments where
painting, sound, and video coexist as equal elements.

FORMAT:

Installation combining:
- Original paintings (10-15 medium to large format works)
- Listening stations (headphones, individual song experiences)
- Video displays (selected video essays on loop)
- Text elements (excerpts from lyrics, philosophical
 reflections)
- Interactive elements (QR codes linking to online gallery)

The space is organized to guide visitors through the three
phases of transformation, but allows for non-linear exploration.

SPACE REQUIREMENTS:

- Gallery or project space: 80-150 m² (flexible)
- Wall space for 10-15 paintings
- Ability to dim or control lighting
- Power outlets for video displays/audio equipment
- Optional: Separate room or alcove for immersive audio-video
 installation

SETUP:

- Installation time: 2-3 days
- Duration: 1-3 weeks (flexible)
- Opening event can include live performance

We provide all paintings, video equipment, and audio equipment.
Venue provides wall space, basic lighting, and projection
surfaces if needed.

HYBRID FORMAT:

Ideal scenario combines exhibition with performance:
- Week 1-2: Exhibition open for viewing
- Opening event: Live performance + artist talk
- Week 2-3: Exhibition continues
- Closing: Optional finissage or artist talk

This format allows the work to be experienced in multiple ways:
as individual exploration (exhibition), as collective ritual
(performance), and as dialogue (artist talk).

ARTISTIC STATEMENT
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

We believe art has the capacity to create moments of
recognition – instances where individuals encounter their own
experiences reflected in another's expression. These moments
are not about identification or representation, but about the
strange intimacy of seeing oneself in what initially appears
foreign.

Our work does not seek to "heal" or "redeem" difficult
experiences like depression. We do not romanticize suffering
or reduce complex psychological states to aesthetic fodder.
Instead, we attempt to create honest documentation of what it
feels like to move through crisis and emerge changed – not
better, not healed, but different.

The audiovisual approach is not a stylistic choice but a
necessity. Depression resists language. It exists in the space
between words, in the gap between what we feel and what we can
articulate. Music, painting, and text each offer different
approaches to this gap. Together, they create a more complete
picture – still incomplete, but more honest in its
incompleteness.

We work collaboratively not because it's easier (it's harder)
but because the recognition we experienced in each other's work
became the model for what we want to create for others. The
moment of seeing your own struggle in someone else's expression,
of realizing you're not alone in your particular flavor of
darkness – that moment is what we're after.

This is not therapy, not self-help, not motivational art. This
is documentation. This is witness. This is the attempt to make
visible what usually remains hidden, not because it's shameful,
but because we lack the language to share it.
